New Year, New Club Training Sessions

by Peter Simpson
The reinstitution of the London club training sessions proved a success, and will hopefully lead to many more. Here Peter Simpson describes how the set worked to give everyone a challenging run and how some members took advantage of Starbucks' vegan offerings...

The weather turned out to be ideal with four members meeting up in Hyde Park around 11am: Steve Davies, Vanessa Hudson, James Millington & myself. Being the first session it proved sensible to not venture too far from our meeting point. We varied the session and gave runners the opportunity to run at their own pace. Started off with a group jog followed by a handicap session with Vanessa & James paired up and Steve & myself paired. The options chosen worked out well with all four of us finishing the intervals close together. Steve & myself had to work harder than intended to catch Vanessa & James. We then chose a small circuit to repeat 4 times at a fast pace with Vanessa deciding to opt out due to injury concerns and take some photos. Finally we had a warm down jog of 15 minutes, the total session lasting about 50 minutes. We retired to the nearby Serpentine Café where we had planned to meet Andrew Knight who had to opt out of the session due to recent cold/flu and later moved onto Oxford Street and Starbucks for something vegan to eat.

The next training session is being planned for 14 February in Regent's Park. Meeting point upstairs in the Hub at 10.45am for 11am start. The Hub is centrally located in the northern end of the park.
