Membership
There is a membership scheme for the runner who would like to join the Vegan Runners UK and is available by clicking on the 'join' option. A contacts list is also maintained for people who would like to receive more information on the Club’s activities before making a commitment to joining. Supporters are most welcome. Please e-mail Vegan Runners if you wish to be added to the contacts list.
Activities & Events
Communication is normally by e-mail otherwise, less frequently by phone or post. Contacts are encouraged to enter events of their choice or wait for ideas from the organiser / other contacts. A current diary of events is maintained here and e-mailed to contacts, normally on a monthly basis. It is up to contacts to keep the organiser informed of their planned running activities.
Events could be of any distance or surface type chosen by the promoter otherwise between 5 kilometres and the marathon. Participation in walking and multisport events are encouraged. Contacts will be responsible for entering their chosen events and paying the appropriate fees. The events are advertised in various magazines on sale in the main newsagents or on subscription through the post. Lookout for the following magazines: Runner’s World, Running Fitness and Athletics Weekly.
The Club encourages contacts of all abilities to participate. In most open events there are runners with a wide range of abilities and levels of fitness. Vegan Runners will promote the cause best with contacts finishing over a wide variety of times. Obviously the fast runners will achieve much needed publicity from their performances otherwise, all other contacts play a significant role in awareness raising and at the same time enjoying a health-promoting activity.
Fitness & Training
Given that contacts are spread far and wide, training sessions for contacts are not likely to be possible in the short term. The Club encourages contacts in the same area to make local arrangements for training sessions and would like to appoint local contacts for their area/region otherwise, if in need of further motivation, suggest that you join your local club for this purpose. Unless you prefer to run first claim for the local club, please make it clear to the local club that you are joining as a second claim member. If you are a paid-up member of Vegan Runners UK and have joined as first claim, the club name on any entry form should be ‘Vegan Runners UK’. Hopefully the first claim member will decide to wear the Vegan Runners vest with details available here on the clothing form otherwise e-mail the Club Secretary
Club Affiliation
Vegan Runners UK is affiliated to UK Athletics for 2007 via the South of England Athletic Association (SEAA) and England Athletics. Paid-up members of Vegan Runners UK are entitled to the discounted entry fee for affiliated Club runners, other registered vegan runners, if not a member of an affiliated club, must pay the fee for unattached / unaffiliated club runners. If you are a paid-up member and the entry form asks for a registration number, please add to the form that the Club is affiliated to the SEAA and England Athletics.
Results / Feedback
All contacts on the mailing list are encouraged to report back to the Club after their events. A report of activity compiled every month or so, is added here and e-mailed to all registered contacts. Details of achievements from contacts are collated and e-mailed at appropriate times and less regularly by post. Keeping track of activity is very important for publicity both for the Club, socially, recruiting of further contacts and the vegan cause. Given time contacts will meet up at events by popular choice or at targeted events.
